Fighting Silence (On the Ropes book 1)
As I sit and stare out my bedroom window, *wink* I think to myself oh Aly, you first brought me Brett and I was hooked, next you showed me Caleb and I thought, “okay, I can be in love with 2 guys.” Then Leo came along, I fell hard. . . again. And, just when I think you can't top these 3 you bring me Slate. He was perfect, you can't top perfection, or so I thought.
Till Page, you stole my heart from very early on and made me eat my words. I think I knew I was in love when I read that handwritten note on that torn-out piece of notebook paper.
More often than not the male lead in recent books are rich and arrogant. Those dominant alpha's that demand a woman's attentions and take what they want when they want it. Not here, not this time. (thank god)
This is a story like no other, actually if you are a fan of Aly's writing you know this already. She writes outside the box and nothing is off limits to her.
Cliffhangers, most of us hate them. Well, what about when it's at the beginning of a book. Sounds weird, let me explain.
I don't like spoilers so bare with me. Aly takes us on a journey that will make you feel like you are literally hanging off a cliff for dear life with only a little tiny branch between you and the unknown. Early on I was waiting for the other shoe to fall and wasn't sure I would emotionally recover when it did.
As a reader I sometimes feel that while experiencing a story that is amazing, gets rushed at the end by a 2 page “OH NO WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.” A little tension and them BAM happily ever after.
This book is nothing like that. Wear gloves because you will be dangling from this cliff for a very long time. But, to me, that makes the HEA even that more worth the wait.
Give me a cliffy in the beginning of the book and keep me guessing as I turn the pages is way better then cliffy at the end, having to wait for the next one to come out.
This book tops perfection for me. It was amazingly written.
You are going to abso-fucking-lutely fall in love with these characters. In the end you will finally be able to take a deep breath and patiently wait for the next one. I use the term patiently in a hurrythefuckupalready kind of way.
I give it 6 SILENT STARS! ~Review by Stacey
Fighting Shadows (On the Ropes book 2)
First off, you know you love a series when you go back and re-read the end of the first to get ready for the second and you STILL END UP CRYING! But the difference with an Aly Martinez book, an author who writes outside of that cookie-cutter romance box, I continued crying well into the 2nd. That is the sign of an amazing writer.
I can't even put into words how I felt about this story. Knowing who the author was, I anticipated an outside the romance cookie-cutter story that was going to leave me breathless. Well, it did that and then some. Which, shouldn't surprise you because if you are reading this review, these stories and this series have already consumed you and I need to say nothing but it's just more of the same...meaning it's brilliant.
If you are reading this review because you are trying to decide whether or not to take chance on this author or this story, let me just say, you are missing out on something amazing. Start and the very beginning and grab plenty of tissue and maybe do some facebook stalking on this author, because I guarantee you are going to to want to message and ask her where you should go for group therapy. Yep, these books are that good.
Flint, will completely melt your heart. And, just like all of the Page boys, he will have you wanting more.
'I had to fight for everything. The same everything that was absolutely never enough. For God's sake, hearing and walking weren't even guaranteed for us.'
I give Fighting Shadows by Aly Martinez 10 undoubtedly well deserved stars. Read. This. Book. ~ Review by Stacey
Fighting Solitude (One the Ropes book 3)
Although I am so sad that this series has come to an end I feel that Mrs. Martinez went out with a bang. Not just your normal everyday bang, but your hold the phone what the heck did I just read and why am I curled up in fetal position crying like a baby kind of BANG! I mean the feels in this book. I believe I experienced every emotion out there...and ALSO not your normal everyday emotions but emotions on crack!
Till, Flint and Quarry Page. Three boys that will forever change the way you look at a book boyfriend.
When I first read about Till my heart was completely ripped out of my chest and stomped on. I fell hard and fast and thought there is no way this author was going to bring the emotions I felt in book 1.
Then she gave us Flint, and that pulling on the heartstrings was just as prominent. Even though each book focuses on a certain Page brother, this author manages to give us just enough of all our favorites from this series to keep us wanting more...and more...and more.
Then just when I think author Aly Martinez can't top it....she goes and blows the freaking roof off. I mean this story has everything. She leaves no stone unturned. I want to be so mad at this amazing author for bringing us the end but as much as I try to, I can't. She gave this story everything we as readers needed to feel satisfied. She put her heart and soul in to this story. And yes, I know without a shadow of a doubt that she gives her all with every story but I really feel like she went above and beyond to give us the closure we need to be able to sit back at the end of an amazing series and feel like we got the whole story. Aly Martinez laid it all out on the table and I couldn't be more satisfied.
This story was perfection and I am confident in giving it 10 stars. Will I miss these Page boys? My answer to that....every...single...day.
