6 STARS
As I sit here and look at the keys on my laptop, I don't quite know what to say...
Minutes pass and I catch myself still sitting here, staring at nothing really. Just trying to take in the story I have just read. A story like no other.
Was I consumed from the very first page? Yes.
Was I, at times, disgusted with what I was reading yet found myself absolutely glued to every single word? Yes.
Let's just say I have had my fair share of your average everyday standalones recently and wanted something outside the box. Little did I know just how far outside the box I was going.
A lot of stories I have read recently have been the same. Girl meets boy, instantly they fall in love only to have a small disagreement 3/4's of the way through ending immediately in a happily ever after. The End.
After a while you get kind of tired of reading the same outline replaced by different character names.
I wanted something different. I wanted intense. I wanted the type of story that was going to have me staring at my keyboard wondering what the hell to say. Hence my review, I got exactly what I wanted.
Light and fluffy this book is not. It is not for the weak at heart.
Cliffhanger....oh hell yes. And there have been sooooo many standalones come out recently that I have to say it felt so good to be throwing my kindle at the wall again in frustration. Not that I don't love a good standalone but I often feel that it's hard to become attached emotionally to a story that begins and ends in a couple hundred pages. This story was a slow gradual build up. The kind of slow you welcome. The kind of slow you need to truly understand these characters and feel for them. Only to question whether you should be.
Do monsters really exist. Are they really monsters in the first place.
If you are ready for something deep I suggest you read this. It will make you question everything you thought you knew and should feel about a romance novel.
I may not know exactly how to express what I am feeling, but without a doubt 6 stars come to mind.
