RELEASE DAY BLITZ - Sacrifice by Adriana Locke

Title: Sacrifice
Author: Adriana Locke
 Release Date: July 13, 2015

Blurb

My life changed forever the night my husband died.

I was left with a shattered heart, a heap of bills, and our daughter, EVERLEIGH. I don’t want to rely on anyone, least of all CREW GENTRY. He’s my first love and the man who almost destroyed me, the man who has let me down every time I’ve needed him.

But when tragedy strikes a second time, Crew just might be my only hope.

My life changed forever the night my brother died.

I was left with a guilty conscience, a pile of mistakes, and little else. I take care of JULIA GENTRY, my brother’s widow and the love of my life, and their daughter. I know she doesn’t want my help, but she gets it anyway. I owe her that. When another disaster hits, I’m given the opportunity to make things right. I’m taking it. I'm willing to sacrifice it all.

Excerpt

“She’s been missing him a lot lately.”

Julia’s voice is barely a whisper and my chest constricts. Our conversations don’t normally make it to discussing Gage unless we’re already arguing. The fact that she just brought it up shocks me and I’m not comfortable with it. I don’t know how to take it. I feel my jaw pulse with frustration and scramble to change the subject again. “Why is it so chilly in here?”

Her smile disappears and she tugs her sweatshirt nervously. “I didn’t know it was.”

“How can you possibly not know?” I start to the thermostat across the room when she clears her throat.

“The heater isn’t working right. I asked Lane to come by and look at it earlier this week.”

“And he hasn’t been here yet?” I shoot her a look and she shakes her head. “He’ll be here tonight.” I dig my cell outta my pocket.

“Crew, don’t. Please. The last time you called my landlord he was a complete jerk to me for a couple of months. I just got on good terms with him again.”

I scroll through my contacts list, looking for his name.

“Crew ...” I know her doe-eyes are pleading with me. I also know if I look up at her, I’ll be somewhat inclined to give in. So I don’t.

Sacrifice- noun. An act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else.

I wanted to start off this review with that. Sacrifice is just that making sacrifices for things you value. What would you do to if you had to do that? Would you put your life on hold to do something for someone you love to get something they absolutely needed? Crew to me was an a*s until he peeled back his layers to me through the book and it showed that he really was a man who cared for the ones he loved. Julia from the beginning my heart hurt for her and her sweet daughter Everleigh. Her world was shattered in a tragic accident and she never forgave Crew. Now she is struggling and doing the best she can and she always has the annoyance of Crew being there. You get to see the once her defenses are shattered by horrible news about Ever she has to make sacrifices to make sure she does everything for her little girl. Crew doesn’t take advantage of what happens but he steps up and wants to do what he feels right and he has to make sure they both can come around to what is happening with sweet Ever. One of my favorites quotes that spoke to me when reading was this one.

“I’ll sacrifice everything I am. I’ll do whatever it takes for them.”~Crew.

Another quote that caught my eye was:
“Guys like me, we train to love. So have I been Training? Yeah, I train for f*cking life.” ~Crew.

He was struggling just as much as Julia and he was doing it all for her and Ever.
I felt heartbroken when I started the book but by the end I was crying happy tears because of what they all went through and overcame. You will want to laugh, cry, and throw things at times when you are reading. Adriana your story was touching and I’m still getting emotional writing this! Girl you did an amazing job! Ladies get ready to get sCREWed!

REVIEW

Tremors. According to the web it means an involuntary quivering movement. A sudden feeling of fear or excitement. And the most common definition for this is slight earthquakes. You know, a few little ones before the big one. All these directly relate to how I felt reading Black Dawn by Cristin Harber.

Involuntary quivering movement...absolutely. How could you not have this reaction when we are dealing with Parker Black.

'The guy was into numbers, which she totally got. When they talked sports, Parker talked statistics. When they talked news, his answers were based on risk and analysis. All of which magnified his smoldering blue eyes and tussled near-black hair. Intelligence made a man crazy attractive. His broad chest and sculpted butt were pretty amazing too.'

Sudden feeling of fear or excitement...bullseye. From the very beginning I felt fear. Fear is the most prominent feeling throughout the beginning of this book. In fact, I remember messaging Cristin Harber just to say, “You are scaring the shit out of me! I don't want to turn the page!” Excitement quickly follows and I could feel myself take a deep breath, and quietly think to myself, 'Thank god for Parker.'

'It was as if her savior had shown up, even though he had no idea she'd cast him in the role.'

And finally the most common definition, slight earthquakes....This hits the nail on the head for me. In most books we get the gasping HOLY SHIT moment in the end. Not with Black Dawn. Cristin gives us so many moments to think, 'WTF, I just started reading this book! I can't be freaking out already!'

Question...what do cliffhangers, earthquakes and Cristin Harber all have in common? Don't know? Here is the answer. They all have you hiding under a table with your head between your knees while rocking back and forth mumbling to yourself.

Like to live on the edge??? BUY. THIS. BOOK. This is one earthquake you will love. It's no surprise I give Black Dawn 5 ground shaking stars.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ - Caged by Shay Savage

Caged by Shay Savage

BLURB
This is not made for TV. This is the raw, brutal underground of no-holds-barred combat. Inside the cage there is nothing but me and the pain I inflict on those who dare enter. In the cage, I never have to worry about anyone but myself. Yet, when she began standing outside of the cage, everything changed. I was no longer fighting for the money or the glory – I was fighting for her.

EXCERPT
Are you just stupid?” I probably would have gone on, but she wrapped her arms around herself and glared up at me.
Stop yelling at me!” she screamed. She turned away, but I saw her reach up with the back of her hand to swoop underneath her eyes.
Shit.
I turned slightly away from her and practically bit down on my tongue to keep myself from saying anything else. I brought my fisted hands up against my stomach and tried to pull the tension inside of myself, work through it, and calm down. I could hear her crying combined with choked breaths and sniffles.
Fuck,” I mumbled under my breath. I was starting to come off the fighting high I had been on—the tears might have helped with that—and my stomach felt tight.
After three long, deep breaths, I looked back to the girl on the ground and saw her frantically rubbing at her eyes and cheeks. She didn’t look at me as she reached out and pulled her mostly empty bag close to her. She looked inside and then looked around her at all her things on the ground.
Sorry,” I mumbled. I wasn’t all that great at apologies, and I figured now wasn’t going to be much different. I’d obviously upset her with all my shitty comments, though. “I didn’t mean to…I just…”
I stopped talking. I didn’t know what to say, and I felt bad about yelling at her. She looked at me all red-eyed with tears staining her cheeks.
Just don’t do that shit anymore.” I let out a big sigh.
She nodded once and then reached out to grab something off the ground near her and shoved it back into the bag. From the amount of stuff scattered all over the street, my estimate on the size of the so-called purse wasn’t too far off. There was an umbrella, a little flashlight, a bunch of tubes and bottles, and at least a half dozen pens. As I looked around some more, I saw a small notebook, a paperback book, keys, a bottle of hand lotion that was nowhere near travel sized, a stack of tissues wrapped up in a Ziploc bag, two sets of earbuds, and a checkbook. There was also a whole pile of ponytail holders, bobby pins, and those little hair-holder-things that looked like teeth.
There was shit from her bag from one side of the fucking street to the other.
She started crawling around, gathering it all up, and cramming it back inside, which gave me a fabulous view of her ass in the short-shorts style waitress uniform the place up the street usually demanded. I could kind of see how she might have thought she could use the bag as a weapon—there had been more stuff in there than really should have been able to fit. I looked around on the ground to see if there was an actual kitchen sink, or at least part of one, but I didn’t see anything metal. There was something that looked like a small rock, though.
How do you even carry that thing around?” I asked.
What?”
That…that purse-bag-thingy there,” I said, pointing and shaking my finger at it. I wouldn’t have admitted it, but the whole idea of the thing scared me, and I wasn’t sure why. I felt like if I got too close to it I might get sucked in, never to be seen again. “It’s insane.”
Her eyes became little slits as she looked up to me.
There is nothing wrong with my purse!” she growled.
It’s huge,” I said.
It has everything I need in it.”
It has everything you and ten of your friends could need for a week,” I replied with a laugh. “I know there are people who carry Chihuahuas in their purse, but you could fit a Dane in there.”

REVIEWS

If you don't know me, I'm a sucker for a good fighter romance. There is just something about a strong yet sensitive fighter. That being said, the cover and the title immediately had me wanting more.

Liam Teague... One dirty talking sexy as all hell fighter. I loved this man from the very beginning. He wasn't some high class, stuck on himself wanna be. He seemed real to me. His daily struggles were something I could believe. But man.....that dirty mouth....

'I wanted to bend her over the table right then and there. I wanted to take her on the kitchen floor. I wanted to take her on the counter. I wanted to pull her back into the bed and show her just what I could do to her. I wanted my c*ck in her so bad, I could hardly see straight.'

The early on relationship between Teague and Tria was a different one. The whole big brother vibe was a little off putting. I, for one, NEVER got that impression. Just two people trying to convince themselves there was nothing there. The sexual tension alone drove me insane!

'Since I wasn't actively seeking any of the female kind, he had to settle for my hand. He complained a bit – I have a stubborn, moody c*ck – but once he figured that was all he was going to get, he sprang to life.'

The story was there and then it just took a wild turn.  I was all into the story and then within a matter of one page I was saying WTF??

I was there. I felt the emotion and the attachment to these characters. the story line just went too out of control. The places it was headed was not somewhere I wanted it to go. I love this author and definitely plan on reading more in the future.
3 ½ Stars ~ Review by Stacey

When I first saw that this was a Fighter book I got excited. This is my favorite genre in romance so I couldn't wait to get started.
Reading it in Liam’s POV.... not strange but the whole book is from just him. I have read several books from just one POV but it is usually the girl not the guy. I was caught off guard but I kept reading.
At about 60% of the book it was hard for me to keep going but I trucked on to see if I got into it more. I liked how the relationship between Tria and Liam started and progressed through. They both have horrible past and they were afraid to move on incase they messed up. I get that but it was really slow moving and I tended to get bored fast. Once it finally happened I was excited! We are finally going to get somewhere here! Then a HUGE twist was played in and I was wondering what the hell is going on. I kept on reading and it got weirder and weirder. I couldn’t grasp what was really happening or why.
It had potential in the beginning of the book but once I got to the last three or four chapters I knew this book wasn’t for me. Is it a book for you? Possibly. Is it for me? No. The book ended in a cliffy so be warned for that. I would recommend the book to people who like a twist in a book that you will not see coming but it was just too much for me.

*****
Excerpt

I wake up to the heat of someone’s palm against my shoulder. Twisting around, my hand moves faster than my brain, and I snatch it off me.

“Jesse, it’s me, Bell,” she rushes out before I can take it any further.

“Fuck.” I release my grip on her arm and sit up, forcing myself back to the here and now.

“Did I hurt you?” I reach for her searching for any sign of a mark left by me.

“It’s fine. You barely touched me.” She holds her arm out letting me inspect it. I check it over one more time before releasing her and relaxing.

“You wanna talk about it?” I study her face, eyes calm, soft mouth. She’s not freaking out.

“Just some shit that visits my dreams sometimes, nothing that needs to touch you,” I reply, shocked I’m not retreating.

“I don’t mind, Jesse,” she pushes, and I almost cave. Almost.

“The last thing I want to do is talk about this shit, Bell.” She doesn’t argue or press, and I’m grateful for it. I don’t think I’d be able to keep my cool if she did.

“Come back to sleep.” She lies back down and I follow her. She doesn’t ask me any more questions, or make me feel like I need to tell her everything.

“That ever happens again, don’t wake me,” I warn. A menacing thought strikes through me picturing what could have happened if I didn’t wake in time. She’s lucky I didn’t hurt her, like the last time a woman touched me while I had a nightmare.

“You don’t always have to be so brave, Jesse.” Her hand moves to my dog tags. I don’t stop her. I’m starting to like the feeling of her hands touching them.

“Never tried to be, Bell. But talking doesn’t help me. Never has.” I think back to the time when I did try and it forced me out of control. Talking about those triggers only amplified my insecurities. When death sits afar, mocking you in the dangerous confines of your surroundings, it fucks with your head; nothing was going to change it.

Besides, my issues weren’t what I had done. They were what I had survived. My conscience wasn’t clear and my honor wasn’t clean.

“Promise me you won’t touch me.” I keep my tone even, controlled.

“I promise.” I take her hand in mine and bring it to my lips. Maybe one day I will let someone in. Let her in.

Today isn’t that day.

But today, I didn’t push her away.

That has to count for something.

You can't have your cake and eat it too...or can you? That is the million dollar question when reading this story.

Sports Romance is my favorite genre. Baseball players just so happen to be one of my weaknesses.
So when a story starts with, “Now batting...number seven...shortstop...Quint Lawson!” I have to admit I was pretty excited.

Quint Lawson, number 7 on the field and number 1 in your heart. Well, for a little while anyway.
I felt so many emotions with this guy. Love, attraction, admiration, compassion, and then before too long everything changed and I felt heartbreak. Followed by annoyed, aggravated and then fuming.

This is a story about understanding what it means to 'have it all.' Do you have to have it all in order to be happy?

'With every breath, I'm reminded of what I lost. She's always been my heart, but baseball was my blood. One doesn't work without the other.'

Well, if you want to find out, simply read this book. The answer to this million dollar question lay in the words of this story.
I am giving Shortstop 4 stars. I loved the story line and where it took you. I just felt the beginning was a little rushed and too much information was thrown at me. By the time shit got bad, I was glued to my kindle and didn't stop until I reached the very end.

And for the record, I LOVED the repetitiveness in the prologue and epilogue. Noticed it right off and it put a HUGE smile on my face.
Review by Stacey

The title of this book caught my eye. I have read sports romances before especially baseball ones and I have always enjoyed them.
When I first started the book I was excited. It shows how Quint and Annie’s love started out and I loved every minute of it. They were best friends that grew to more. They had always felt this way about each other but didn’t know how to go from friends to more. It gave mea glimpse into their past that let me know more abut them. At first I felt over loaded with information that was coming from the characters. They both shared so much I felt like couldn’t enjoy their story with all the other information I was getting. Once I got past that I enjoyed the story. When you think everything will just keep getting better for them tragedy strikes and test their love. I hated Quint towards the end of the book! I wanted him to pull his head out of his a*s and realize what he has right in from of him. He makes horrible decisions and it looks like he is never going to recover. Annie is there by his side until she feels and knows that she can’t do it anymore. She give him the space he wants from her and she is broken. I have never felt the way I did when reading her parts. I wanted them to be happy and never should have faced what they were going through. They were both everything that they ever wanted and now they cant do that. FINALLY Quint snaps out of it but is it too late to mend the relationship he had with Annie? That was my question through everything. He did horrible things to get his end result he thought he wanted but he never actually wanted that at all. I felt for them both throughout the book. I could see that their love for each other could conquer all but they couldn’t see that at first. Quint and Annie didn’t jump back in and I was relieved when they worked things out. I never expected what happened after they reconciled and the ending connect their past with their future and I loved that!
The story was great but I feel like it could have dealt with out so much information at the beginning and progressed the story.
All in all I loved The Shortstop!
